Description
This Easy Meatball Sub Pasta Bake is the ultimate comfort food for cozy nights, combining juicy meatballs, zesty marinara, and gooey cheese in a casserole form.
Ingredients
- Cooked pasta (penne or rigatoni)
- Marinara sauce
- Meatballs (frozen or homemade, fully cooked)
- Mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- Parmesan cheese (grated)
- Garlic powder
- Italian seasoning
- Olive oil
- Fresh basil (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Boil penne or rigatoni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and toss with a drizzle of olive oil to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the meatballs. If using frozen meatballs, heat them according to the package instructions. If using homemade ones, ensure they’re fully cooked.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with marinara sauce, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Mix until well-coated.
- Spread half of the pasta mixture into the bottom of the baking dish. Add a layer of meatballs, then sprinkle with half the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
- Add the remaining pasta mixture on top, followed by another layer of meatballs. Sprinkle the remaining cheese evenly over the top.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let the bake cool for a few minutes before serving. Sprinkle fresh basil on top for an optional burst of flavor.
Notes
For a crispy topping, broil the casserole for the last 2-3 minutes of baking. Add breadcrumbs for extra crunch or drizzle balsamic glaze for a unique twist.
